While listening to the wonderful "Best of Pagan Song" CD, I had a vision of a play/opera/operetta/dance that could be done with the songs. Here is my outline:

Play based on the Pagan Songs CD:

1. Burning Times by Charlie Murphy: All the characters. Begin in the Grove. Springtime. Full Moon. Beltane. Beautiful woman in the center (Magick!) (At the end they all scatter)

2. Heretic Heart: One maiden marches down the path in the woods, solitary, beating on a drum.

3. We won’t wait: A line of people, like a snake dance, lead by the singer who looks like an elf or Robin Hood. (Picture of Gwydion, Celtic). Then he sits upon a rock and “preached”....lights a fire! (They all invoke) Nature spirits and animal totems joing them.
Cauldron....picture of the Whole Earth.

4. The Crescent Moon Rises....a young girl sings. Celtic milkmaid in Ireland.
IT is early dawn and misty. A Stag appears through the mist.

5. A group of Troubadours , Gypsies, etc.(some very dark) (Summer)
Combo “the Safety Dance”, Bhangara, Belly, Celtic, Yoga, Gypsy, African, Flamenco dancing....

6. Lord of the Dance: Robin Hood is back with his merry men (12 !), Jesus and apostles, Nature Spirits join them. (I live in the Music!) (Summer)

7. Magick: The woman who was in the center of the circle (at the beginning) sings....she goes from spotlight to spotlight, teaching people. She is by a tree, a window, a cook-stove, a wishing well. Faery dust is in the air. Use long scarves and wind machine, bubbles?
Ascension! Other women do their stuff, some from different traditions, voodoo, etc.
Flamenco guitar.

8. Troubadour sings: Autumn. Leaves coming down. White horse and bridle bells, faerie Queen. Maeve. She kisses him and he falls into a swoon.

9. The Troubadour is dead. His funeral. The Angel of Death comes for him. Angels dance. Priestess sets his soul free. (Priestess who loves him, too.)

10. The Witchfinders take the Priestess to burn her. She talks to the spirit of the Fire. She also joins the Spirits. On the North Wind! (Winter.)

11. Modern times: A modern girl sings: there is no hell. We do not die. (Its’ the “daughter”...the descendant of the Priestess)

12. “Centering.” The Goddess Herself sings.

13. Funny maidens and maids dance! “All the men are sleeping”

14. “Our Love for Life shall be our Planet’s common point.” New Life....spring again! Moon and well, and Penny and Venus. All the characters join together in a circle again. From the circle comes a Globe. See the Earth in space.....stars all around........
